Overview
A fully headless Shopify storefront that replaced a legacy theme with a custom-built Next.js frontend connected to Shopify's Storefront API via GraphQL. The result is a blazing-fast commerce experience with complete design freedom, while keeping Shopify as the reliable backend for inventory, orders, and fulfilment.
The Challenge
An established e-commerce brand was limited by their Shopify theme — slow page loads, poor mobile experience, and inability to implement advanced product filtering and personalisation. They needed a complete frontend overhaul without migrating away from Shopify's backend.
The Solution
Decoupled the frontend entirely with Next.js and Shopify Storefront API. Used Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) for product pages for near-instant loads, implemented client-side cart with Shopify's Cart API, and built a custom faceted search with real-time filtering using Shopify's product metafields.
Outcome & Results
Lighthouse performance score improved from 48 to 96. Page load time reduced by 58%. Mobile conversion rate increased by 34% in the first quarter post-launch.
